Amazon's tax team is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join the Direct Tax Technology team as a Software Development Engineer. Based in Seattle and Arlington, this role will ensure the tax professionals of Amazon's Direct Tax Reporting and Compliance organization are supported by world-class technology and processes.
The impact of this work is evident in improved efficiency in processing, empowered customers, and a Tax department that meets the unique challenges of Amazon.
The primary responsibilities of this role include:
- Tackling tax technology challenges with scalable solutions delivered in a quick-and-nimble fashion
- Leading efforts that involve multiple teams and delivering solutions with impact across the R&C organization
- Being trusted advisors to R&C customers and engaging on projects with high degrees of complexity and business criticality
- Helping to define requirements, design, build, and rollout solutions
- Working with multiple stakeholders and managing the complexity of competing needs and timelines
- Supporting customers through their business cycles, mentoring, troubleshooting, and running processes as needed
- Understanding the solutions we have today, applying them where appropriate, and inventing new capabilities when needed
- Own particular processes and/or parts of our technology toolset, providing subject matter expertise and mentorship
- Listening to customers across the organization and expanding our toolset to the benefit of all, avoiding point solutions
Basic qualifications for this role include:
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred qualifications include:
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market.
Pay is based on a number of factors, including market location, and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
