Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse will work under the direction of the Nurse Manager of the Medical Department to provide nursing care to outpatient mental health patients. This role requires a strong understanding of psychiatric principles, procedures, and techniques, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with mental health patients and families
  • Comply with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and responsive service
  • Exercise judgment in answering questions and releasing information
  • Analyze and project consequences of decisions and/or recommendations
  • Communicate medical and treatment concerns between patients and providers
  • Plan and provide nursing care for patients
  • Assess and note reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications
  • Arrange further medical attention when necessary
  • Assist patients in understanding the nature of mental health and accepting the need for treatment
  • Document patient information on medical charts and follow verbal and written orders
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results
  • Perform administrative assignments, such as maintaining patient records, answering phones, and completing general notes
Requirements:
  • Active, non-restricted licensed practical nurse license in Pennsylvania and Virginia, with a compact state license preferred
  • 2+ years of practice in a mental health setting, with pediatric nursing experience required
Knowledge/Skills:
  • Professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients
  • Social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders
  • Medical and psychological terminology
  • Medications, including psychotropic drugs, and effects on psychiatric patients
  • State of Virginia and Pennsylvania laws and regulations for the nursing profession
  • Regulations pertaining to psychiatric nursing and the treatment of mental health
  • Symptoms and behavior patterns of mental health
  • Medical and psychiatric emergency procedures
  • Basic computer programs
Salary Range:

$48,000 - $54,000

Work Environment:
