Job Summary

Brightmark is seeking a highly motivated and experienced HSE Specialist to join our Plastics HSE team. As an HSE Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the protection of people and the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Maintain HSE Programs: Create, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environmental procedures and plans for the site, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies such as OSHA, IOSHA, IDEM, EPA, NFPA, and others.
  • Conduct Audits and Inspections: Perform regular audits and inspections of equipment, grounds, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other areas to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide HSE Training: Design and deliver HSE training programs for new hires and existing employees, focusing on skill-based training and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage HSE Data and Corrective Actions: Enter and track HSE data, including near misses, audits, inspections, and corrective actions, to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance.
  • Maintain SDS and Risk Assessments: Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all areas and perform site-level and area risk assessments to identify hazards and implement controls.
  • Support MOC, PSM, and Permitting: Assist in the development and implementation of Management of Change (MOC) procedures, Process Safety Management (PSM) protocols, and permitting processes, including Safe Work Permits and other regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in Daily Standup Meetings: Attend daily standup meetings to discuss ongoing projects, share knowledge, and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Deploy HSE Initiatives: Develop and implement HSE initiatives to support a Zero Incident Culture, including the development of policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Maintain Electronic HSE Systems: Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance of electronic HSE systems, including data entry, tracking, and reporting.
  • Support the HSE Committee: Participate in the HSE Committee and serve as a member of various site teams to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Perform Administrative Responsibilities: Complete related administrative tasks as needed to support the HSE team and company goals.

Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years of experience working in health, safety, and environmental programs, preferably in high-hazard sites.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Internet, Email, and Microsoft Office programs, strong oral and written communication skills, ability to present to large and small groups, problem-solving skills, and ability to lead by example.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferably with a focus on environmental science, safety, or a related field.
  • Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM) certification preferred.
