Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at the Alabama Department of Education. As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will play a critical role in providing services to children with communication disabilities.

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist will be responsible for evaluating and diagnosing children with speech and language disorders, developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and providing individual and group therapy to children with language, speech, or hearing disorders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and diagnose children with speech and language disorders using standardized tests and informal assessments.
  • Develop IEPs for students on caseload and assist with the development of IEPs for other students being served.
  • Provide individual and group therapy to children with language, speech, or hearing disorders.
  • Consult with principals and teachers regarding the scheduling of children for therapy, per the IEP.
  • Coordinate the Language, Speech and Hearing Services Program with other school programs.
  • Prescribe and implement therapy for those children with communicative disorders.
  • Provide information to teachers about pupil progress in therapy.
  • Monitor student's participation and progress in regular education program by collaborating with regular education teachers.
Requirements:
  • State certification as determined by the Alabama State Department of Education and the American Speech and Hearing Association.
  • Demonstrated aptitude/skill for job performance responsibilities.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Effective skills in oral and written communication to fulfill IEP requirements and communicate to students, parents, support agencies, and other faculty and staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and peers.
  • Proficient use of technology to meet instructional, communication, and record-keeping performance responsibilities.
Working Conditions:

The Speech Language Pathologist will work in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment and will be required to maintain confidentiality regarding student and school issues.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary and work year will be according to the Board's salary schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
