Job Summary

This position is responsible for delivering high-quality psychiatric care to patients of the Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board Inc. (GPTLHB) commensurate with training and licensure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients by interviewing, conducting physical examinations, and reviewing medical history and related documents.
  • Develop treatment plans by determining the nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders.
  • Treat patients using psychotherapeutic methods and medications, and provide instructions and monitoring.
  • Maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
  • Monitor patients' conditions and progress, and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
  • Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  • Improve staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
  • Maintain historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events, and writing summaries.
  • Assure preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to ensure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data to provide comprehensive medical care.
  • Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
  • Work closely with allied health professionals in the provision of broad health program services.
  • Actively participate in clinic quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in meetings and represent GPTLHB as required.
  • Utilize EHR with accurate and timely notes to ensure required documentation is entered for billing and referrals.
  • Comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Provide clinical oversight.
  • Perform related duties.
Requirements
  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school and successful completion of postgraduate training and an approved psychiatric or family medicine/psychiatric residency program.
  • Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine from any US State or Territory.
  • Board certified or Board eligible in psychiatry within three years of residency training.
  • DEA licensure.
  • Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
Work Environment

The work is sedentary, with moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, including exposure to contagious diseases.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility

This position is a first-level supervisor and is responsible for the work performance of a small group of employees or a larger group with a homogeneous objective.
