Psychiatric Care Specialist

This position is responsible for delivering high-quality psychiatric care to patients of the Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board Inc. (GPTLHB) commensurate with training and licensure.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate patients by interviewing, conducting physical examinations, and reviewing medical history and related documents.
- Develop treatment plans by determining the nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders.
- Treat patients using psychotherapeutic methods and medications, and provide instructions and monitoring.
- Maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
- Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
- Monitor patients' conditions and progress, and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
- Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
- Improve staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
- Maintain historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events, and writing summaries.
- Assure preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to ensure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data to provide comprehensive medical care.
- Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
- Work closely with allied health professionals in the provision of broad health program services.
- Actively participate in clinic quality improvement activities.
- Participate in meetings and represent GPTLHB as required.
- Utilize EHR with accurate and timely notes to ensure required documentation is entered for billing and referrals.
- Comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Provide clinical oversight.
- Perform related duties.
- Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school and successful completion of postgraduate training and an approved psychiatric or family medicine/psychiatric residency program.
- Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine from any US State or Territory.
- Board certified or Board eligible in psychiatry within three years of residency training.
- DEA licensure.
- Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.
- Must successfully pass a criminal and background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
The work is sedentary, with moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, including exposure to contagious diseases.
Supervisory and Management ResponsibilityThis position is a first-level supervisor and is responsible for the work performance of a small group of employees or a larger group with a homogeneous objective.
