The Lead Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a crucial role in overseeing the activities of CNAs who provide care and support to clients on their designated floor.

This position collaborates closely with the Health Services Director to implement daily responsibilities associated with client care, maintaining the cleanliness of personal spaces, and facilitating participation in daily living activities.

The Lead CNA should possess a comprehensive understanding of healthcare operations to be effectively performed and supervised.


Qualifications Required:
  • Certification as a nursing assistant
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Completion of training as mandated by the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health, prior to taking on this role (or within the last five years)
  • Free from any criminal background that is classified as a Disqualifying Offense by the Illinois Department of Public Health

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance:
  • Assist in ensuring adherence to state, federal, CARF, and SMHRF regulations concerning client physical health.

Operational Management:
  • Oversee daily operations related to activities of daily living to guarantee client care and wellbeing.
  • Conduct regular monitoring across all floors to ensure compliance with facility safety protocols.
  • Participate in scheduled clinical supervision.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Client Care:
  • Ensure that all primary medical needs of clients are addressed promptly.
  • Guide staff in completing vital sign monitoring as required.
  • Assist in specimen collection under the direction of nursing staff.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of any unusual behaviors or medical concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Verify that staff conduct thorough room inspections to maintain client wellness and cleanliness.
  • Ensure that CNAs monitor and document clients' adherence to activities of daily living.

Supervisory Duties:
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise CNA personnel.
  • Assess job performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
  • Develop and manage the CNA schedule to maintain appropriate staff-to-client ratios.
  • Address staff inquiries and concerns regarding daily operations.
  • Monitor inventory of nursing supplies and submit a supply list to the Executive Director biweekly.
  • Conduct training sessions for CNA staff to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of facility protocols and practices.
