Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Lifeguard to join our team at the Meriden YMCA. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere in the pool area, ensuring the well-being of our members and participants.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Pool Surveillance: Maintain active surveillance of the pool area, ensuring the safety of all individuals.
  2. Emergency Response: Know and respond to emergency procedures, including CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid, in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  3. Member Engagement: Foster positive relationships with members, participants, and staff, promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  4. Safety Protocols: Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  5. Equipment Maintenance: Perform equipment checks and ensure the availability of necessary equipment.
  6. Pool Inspection: Conduct regular inspections of the pool area to identify and address any hazardous conditions.
  7. Chemical Testing: Perform chemical testing when not on guard duty, taking appropriate action as needed.
  8. Training and Development: Attend staff meetings and in-service training to stay up-to-date on YMCA policies and procedures.
  9. Availability and Scheduling: Maintain accurate records of availability and provide timely notice for scheduling changes.
Requirements
  1. Certifications: Possess current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.
  2. Lifeguard Certification: Hold a current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification.
  3. Physical Demands: Meet the physical demands of the job, including hearing, seeing, and lifting requirements.
