Retail Pharmacist

This position plays a crucial role in the fulfillment of Thayer County Health Services' vision and mission by providing prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals according to professional standards and practices.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide specialized pharmaceutical services to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes, including advising physicians on issues concerning drug therapy, toxicity, and side effects.
- Prepare and dispense medications within the facilities, overseeing non-pharmacist personnel involved in the medication use process, and ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain relationships with medical and nursing staff, providing timely information on pharmaceuticals, therapeutic options, drug usage, and compatibility.
- Conduct and evaluate medication use reviews, assessing patient compliance and outcomes, and suggesting modifications to achieve desired outcomes.
- Individualize medication regimens using sound principles, accounting for pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic variations in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination.
- Ensure medicinal products are stored appropriately and securely, maintaining inventory in accordance with state and federal requirements.
- Respond to medication-related queries from within the hospital, other hospitals, and the general public.
- Maintain strict standards of confidentiality, complying with HIPAA recommendations and regulations.
- Stay up-to-date with changing drug knowledge and healthcare developments, collaborating with medical staff and other colleagues.
- Write guidelines for drug use within the hospital and long-term care facilities, preparing drug and therapeutic bulletins, and implementing necessary regulations and related hospital/departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide information related to budgets and drug expenditures, processing cash and credit transactions as required.
- Attend required meetings and participate in facility and community committees as requested.
- Mentor healthcare professionals in training, including pharmacy, medical, and nursing students, providing practical and didactic experiences.
- Provide monthly consulting to contracted LTC facilities.
- Perform other duties as needed by the facility.
- Maintain and promote good health practices.
- Conform to TCHS procedures and policies.
- Perform all duties as described by the job description within the scope of licensure.
- Do not discuss patient matters outside of the clinical setting, keeping in compliance with HIPAA.
- Understand and comply with the requirements of Thayer County Health Services' Compliance Program, including the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Manual, and all supporting policies for compliance and compliance plans.
- Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by organizational policy and as requested by supervisor.
- Demonstrate formal greetings with patients, visitors, and TCHS staff.
- Willingly accept new responsibilities and cooperate with the implementation of change.
- Dress in a neat, clean uniform for patient care, maintaining high personal hygiene standards.
- Demonstrate respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence through a We Care philosophy with all patients, visitors, and TCHS staff.
