Job Summary

The Operating Engineer will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of facility equipment on all systems. This includes electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, and central utility plant operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on technical expertise in one craft area and be multi-skilled in others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment at client sites with minimal disruption
  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems
  • Knowledge of critical system equipment operations, including UPS modules, ATS, STS, generators, and PDU's
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance systems, such as Maintenance Connect or similar
  • Record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper equipment operation
  • Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Review client service request summaries to pinpoint and correct recurrent operational problems
  • Evaluate vendors and suppliers on quality and competitive pricing
  • Prepare and submit purchase order requests
  • Verify delivery accuracy for count, pricing, and description
  • Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory
  • Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors
  • Lead and/or assist with event setup/teardown activities

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Completion of a vocational/trade program preferred
  • 2+ years of similar working experience
  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent
  • Certification as a Universal Technician for CFC's (or within 90 days of employment)
  • Ability to analyze system operations, determine problems, and take corrective action
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel
  • Strong communication skills
  • Availability for call-in work
  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
