Job Title: LVN ER Full Time Nights

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our Emergency Department team at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. As an LVN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Job Summary:

The LVN will be responsible for providing direct patient care in the emergency department setting, working closely with registered nurses and physicians to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. This includes assisting with triage and assessment, administering medications, and providing wound care and IV therapy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with triage and assessment of patients, gathering data and prioritizing care based on the severity of their injuries or illnesses.
  • Administer medications, including oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous medications, as prescribed by physicians.
  • Provide wound care, including initial wound care and assisting with procedures such as suturing, wound dressings, and splinting.
  • Initiate and maintain intravenous (IV) access for patients requiring fluid and medication administration.
  • Assist with electrocardiograms (EKGs) and setting up cardiac monitoring for patients experiencing cardiac symptoms.
  • Assist with airway management procedures, including suctioning, oxygen administration, and assisting with intubation if necessary.
  • Assist with the application of splints and casts for patients with fractures or other orthopedic injuries.
  • Assist with urinary catheterization for patients who require bladder drainage.
  • Assist with procedures, including chest tube insertion, lumbar puncture, or central line placement.
  • Perform and interpret point-of-care tests, including blood glucose monitoring, urine analysis, and rapid diagnostic tests.
  • Transport patients safely and efficiently to other departments or diagnostic areas within the hospital.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
  • Provide patient and family education on various health conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Assist in emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), trauma care, and managing life-threatening emergencies.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses accurately and timely in the electronic medical record system.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited LVN training program.
  • Minimum one year recent experience in an acute care setting, preferably in the Emergency Department.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-stress environment, maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.
  • Valid LVN license in California.
  • Current IV certification from an approved state course.
  • Wound Care Certificate (within 60 days of employment).
  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of employment).
Work Schedule:

Full-time position, 36 hours per week, with a shift of 6:45pm - 7:15am, 12 hours per shift.
