Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team at MedStar Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams to coordinate care delivery.
  • Contribute to the achievement of department goals and objectives, adhering to policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Collect and analyze patient information to inform care decisions.
  • Function autonomously, providing relationship-based care that promotes efficient and accountable delivery of nursing care.
  • Identify and address complex patient problems, analyzing trends and changes in patient status to plan appropriate interventions.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery, focusing on quality and safety.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, communicating clinical concerns and ethical decisions to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Practice within legal boundaries of nurse practice act, recognizing universal ethical principles.
  • Individualize patient plans of care, focusing on short and long-range goals, and effectively use teaching resources to meet patient learning needs.
  • Communicate patient information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, identifying actual and potential patient safety issues and acting accordingly.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership behaviors, establishing priorities and delegating tasks to peers and ancillary staff as appropriate.
  • Effectively use problem identification and resolution skills, focusing on the clinical scenario to resolve apparent concerns.
  • Independently communicate concerns and make suggestions to the interdisciplinary team, seeking and using resources effectively.
  • Evaluate patient response to treatment and progress toward short and long-range goals, revising nursing interventions as appropriate.
  • Identify patient and family needs prior to discharge, initiating and monitoring discharge planning activities in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Independently identify resources and strategies to enhance professional growth and development, committing to lifelong learning.
  • Support and contribute to unit, department, entity, and organizational goals, inclusive of the mission, vision, and values.
  • Participate in meetings and on committees, representing the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited academic nursing program preferred.
  • Associate degree in nursing level, required to enroll in a BSN program within 6 months of hire date and completion within 3 years required.
  • 1-2 years RN experience required.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state or jurisdiction of the facility seeking employment, or Multistate Compact state or license eligible.
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation by completion of introductory period within 30 Days required.
  • C-EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring Perinatal nurses (labor and delivery, antepartum, antenatal testing) must obtain certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 12 months from date of hire.
