Job Summary

As an Astrodynamics Engineer, you will serve as the Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) for the Astrodynamics subsystem associated with a specific program, study, or proposal.

Your role will encompass not only the execution of technical design, analysis, and operations but also project and technical management activities to support programs, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work products.

As a seasoned member of the team, you will be expected to establish the engineering standards for the Astro team.

You will define methodologies, tools, and processes to be adhered to, and you will be accountable for the overall quality of the work produced by the group.

Mentoring other team members and nurturing the next generation of Astrodynamics engineering talent will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities
• Conduct astrodynamics and orbital analyses
• Identify and derive astrodynamics requirements to fulfill customer missions
• Optimize spacecraft trajectories considering fuel, time, and performance metrics
• Develop tools and processes for mission operations and the wider team
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and assurance of engineering quality for the team
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 7+ years of industry experience in orbit analysis roles (advanced degrees may substitute for industry experience)
• Proficiency in orbital mechanics, orbit design, or astrodynamics
• Experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis
• Familiarity with orbit design and simulation software tools (e.g., GMAT, STK, COTS mission planning tools, etc.)
• Proficient in scientific computing software (MATLAB, Python, Julia, Fortran, C++, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of numerical methods including linear algebra, integration and quadrature techniques, interpolation, and optimization
• Technical leadership experience, including requirements generation, delegation, and management of technical tasks, along with REA experience.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, which necessitates U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Preferred Qualifications
• MS or PhD in aerospace engineering or a related technical discipline
• 10+ years of industry experience in orbit analysis roles (advanced degrees may substitute for industry experience)
• Experience with rendezvous and proximity operations or formation flight
• Familiarity with orbit determination and parameter estimation techniques (Batch and Sequential Estimation, Angles Only, Range Measurements, etc.)
• Knowledge of restricted three-body, periodic, and quasi-periodic orbit modeling and design
• Experience with spacecraft trajectory optimization methods and software (Boundary Value Problem Solvers, NLP Solvers, Genetic Algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimization, etc.)
• Proficiency in linear, nonlinear, and optimal control methods
• Specialization in advanced orbital mechanics topics (e.g., trajectory optimization, relative motion maneuvering, orbit determination techniques, etc.)
• Ability to develop innovative methods, algorithms, and solutions for complex mission analyses
• Contribution to industry-leading knowledge, methods, and techniques within spacecraft guidance, navigation, and control (GNC)
• Active Top Secret security clearance
