Job Summary:

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician II to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instrument processing techniques, including decontamination, assembly, and sterilization. The successful candidate will be responsible for filling orders from requesting departments, making equipment rounds, and returning soiled equipment to the Sterile Processing Department. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for inventorying and restocking supplies, ordering specialty beds and patient equipment, and operating all equipment in the Sterile Processing Department.


Essential Responsibilities:
  • Fills orders from requesting departments.
  • Makes equipment rounds and returns soiled equipment to SPD.
  • Answers phones.
  • Inventory and restocks supplies and specialty carts.
  • Orders specialty beds and patient equipment.
  • Disassembles, cleans, or decontaminates surgical instruments.
  • Assembles, inspects, tests, wraps, and dates OR sets.
  • Operates all equipment in Sterile Processing Department.
  • Uses instrument and equipment tracking system.
  • Examines and maintains integrity of sterile packages.
  • Prepares OR case carts according to preference cards.
  • Promotes customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Able to work in a collaborative environment.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Two years recent experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in an acute hospital or a Surgical Technician with two years recent experience working in a Sterile Processing Department in an acute hospital.
Education
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
  • Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Program including 400 clinical hours or a Surgical Technician program.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification or Registered Central Service Technician Certificate or Surgical Technologist Certificate.
Additional Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of instrument processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of Sterile Processing Department Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical, nursing, and surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and hear audible alarms.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a stressful environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
Notes:
  • Employee is expected to work every other weekend.
