Position Summary: The Underwriting Assistant plays a crucial role in the Commercial Lines department, providing essential support to ensure efficient processing and management of insurance applications and renewals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates the processing of binders, renewals, and related correspondence.
- Assists the Inspection Processing team by identifying discrepancies and offering recommendations for inspections, as well as aiding in the Inspection Review process under the guidance of the CL Service Supervisor.
- Collects and organizes necessary information and reports to support underwriting decisions.
- Handles all client accounts, addressing inquiries, complaints, requests, and policy processing activities in accordance with established guidelines.
- Ensures quality and timely processing of files and maintains accurate records.
- Distributes applications to underwriters for both new and renewal business.
- Provides renewal quotes as instructed by the Underwriter.
- Implements procedures to maintain compliance with corporate and regulatory standards, including managing out-of-state filings and Surplus lines forms for carriers.
- Performs additional tasks as directed by the underwriter.
- Collaborates with underwriters on forms, rates, and relevant areas as needed.
- Serves as a backup for other assistants during their absence.
- Monitors underwriter's emails during their time away from the office.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience in a technical insurance assistant role.
- Expertise in multi-line rating or the capability to develop such expertise.
- Familiarity with Middle Market underwriting classes, forms, procedures, regulations, coverages, and business processes for the designated territory.
- Proven ability to process endorsements effectively.
- Strong analytical skills to identify, gather, and organize information while providing sound recommendations.
- Customer-oriented mindset with the ability to resolve inquiries efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative in completing assignments and achieving results.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to support profitability initiatives for the assigned territory.
- Solid organizational skills, including time management, prioritization, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in operating computer systems and utilizing commercial applications and vendor software.
- Basic mathematical skills.
