Nidec Mobility America Corporation is seeking a meticulous Customer Quality Engineer who is capable of:

Collaborating with interdepartmental engineers and technical professionals in a cooperative environment to manage critical customer accounts regarding quality, while leading and resolving product-related challenges. The Customer Quality Engineer oversees strategic customer accounts, addressing direct customer concerns with effective communication and demonstrating exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills. This role involves global interaction, with occasional travel to customer sites and other Nidec locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate strategies for managing specific customer accounts.
  • Lead the resolution of customer quality issues.
  • Engage with customers to meet their specific requirements.
  • Comprehend customer-specific expectations.
  • Monitor daily quality metrics (PPM and other KPI targets) and cost data (both internal and external) for all requirements.
  • Actively collaborate with the site production team to enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in new business ventures and new product development initiatives.
  • Collect warranty data, create warranty charts, analyze trends, and prepare warranty reports for each assigned OEM to minimize warranty costs.
  • Support change management initiatives at both customer and plant levels.
  • Complete and submit all new parts submission (PPAP) requirements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for new product launches and Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) for product and/or process modifications.
  • Serve as a key member of FMEA Development, acting as a liaison between Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering.
  • Establish quality objectives and improvement plans.
  • Document and apply lessons learned.
  • Review and enhance control plans.
  • Direct customer issues to resolution by assembling appropriate teams and leading problem-solving efforts using methodologies such as 8D, 5P, 5 Whys, Fault Tree Analysis, and other relevant documentation.
  • Additional responsibilities may include involvement in New Product Launch activities, which may necessitate FMEA Moderator training.

Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 2 years in automotive and manufacturing sectors.

Education: Bachelor's Degree required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Analytical mindset with a working knowledge of problem-solving techniques (e.g., Pareto analysis, cause and effect diagrams, fishbone diagrams, and 5 Whys analysis).
  • Technical acumen and familiarity with core tools, as well as knowledge of plating, plastic molding, metal stamping, and/or welding is advantageous.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external customers.
  • Experience in quality engineering or manufacturing engineering within a high-volume automated production environment in the automotive industry.
  • Familiarity with the implementation and use of various charts, corrective action programs, simple DOE, and other SPC tools.
  • Basic knowledge of soldering, electronic components, and PCB assembly is a plus.
  • Understanding of ISO 14001, IATF 16949, VDA Standards, and IPC-A-610D.
  • Proficient in PC applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Access, and Minitab).
  • Experience with European Automotive OEMs (e.g., BMW, VW, Audi, Mercedes) is beneficial.

Travel Requirements: Up to 15% travel may be necessary.

Physical Demands: The role requires consistent sitting, talking, and hearing. Frequent standing and use of hands for handling or feeling are necessary, along with occasional walking, kneeling, squatting, and bending. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
