Job Summary

As a Medical Assistant at Geisinger, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and clinical support in our outpatient setting. You will function as an integral member of the healthcare team under the direction of providers, performing various clinical duties to ensure seamless patient care.

You will be responsible for preparing patients for visits, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, performing technical tasks, documenting using the electronic medical record, and maintaining a safe environment for patients. Additionally, you will provide administrative and clerical support, including patient scheduling, filing reports, and following up on documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient information using the rooming tool in the electronic medical record.
  • Set up examination and treatment rooms between cases.
  • Assist patients as needed to prepare for visits with providers, ensuring their safety and privacy.
  • Provide direct patient care as directed by providers, performing tasks such as EKGs, wound dressings, and supporting providers during minor surgical procedures and ancillary examinations.
  • Prepare and administer medications according to policy and procedure, after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency.
  • Complete patient tests and treatments per provider's order, according to policy and procedure, after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and complete associated paperwork accurately and efficiently to expedite laboratory studies.
  • Perform phlebotomy and assist in specific laboratory functions relative to testing, reporting, and quality assurance of laboratory specimens, as educated and overseen by the laboratory.
  • Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care and clinic functioning, including matching and filing ancillary department reports, consultation, and other medical reports in patients' medical records.
  • Document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
  • Use the electronic medical record and scheduling system as designated.
Requirements

We require a graduate from a Specialty Training Program and a minimum of 1 year of related work experience. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assist (RMA) certification is also required. Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months is a must.

The estimated annual salary for this position is $40,000-$60,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
