Job Summary

The Medical Assistant I - Clinical Support Specialist will work as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team at Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center. This role is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers, ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Flow and Scheduling
    • Review daily schedules and verify availability of supplies and equipment.
    • Prepare patient charts prior to appointment times.
    • Direct patient flow and room turnover in assigned areas.
    • Communicate with patients and families about schedule delays.
  • Direct Patient Care
    • Perform vital signs, diagnostic tests, and laboratory tests, including waived lab tests, venipuncture, and specimen processing.
    • Accurately document medical information in patient records.
    • Determine immunization status and administer immunizations as needed.
    • Administer medication as ordered by providers.
  • In-Direct Patient Care
    • Check sharps containers daily and replace when full.
    • Stock information pamphlets and forms in the clinic daily.
    • Organize and maintain clean and soiled utility rooms and storage areas.
  • Clinic Expectations
    • Report off to covering team members when leaving the floor for breaks or off-duty.
    • Assist other staff as requested.
    • Implement agreed-upon changes in functions, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Completion of Medical Assistant training program and certification.
    • One year of previous medical assistant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Bilingual English and another language that represents the population served by the clinic (preferred).
    • Knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Ability to multi-task and set priorities in an ever-changing environment.
Working Environment

The Medical Assistant I - Clinical Support Specialist will work in a well-lighted, ventilated environment with exposure to blood-borne pathogens and potentially hazardous chemicals. The role requires the ability to lift/carry 40 lbs. of supplies.
