Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Substitute Custodian. This role involves performing responsible unskilled housekeeping and custodial work in caring for and cleaning the school system's buildings.

As a Substitute Custodian, you will be responsible for general housekeeping in the school system's buildings. Your work will be performed in accordance with established policies and procedures, supplemented by instructions under regular supervision. Tasks require continuing physical effort.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to identify cleaning needs and address them with appropriate methods and supplies. You must be able to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions, establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisor, school officials, other employees, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean floors, walls, windows, blinds, lavatories, fixtures, and bathrooms.
  • Wash windows and rugs; change light bulbs and fixtures.
  • Sweep, mop, and dust assigned areas.
  • Move and arrange furniture, empty trash containers, and straighten up public areas.
  • Scrub and clean restrooms including commodes, sinks, and mirrors; fill and stock tissue, towels, and soap dispensers.
  • Polish and wax floors; operate buffers.
  • Perform floor care to include but not limited to buffing, stripping, and waxing/polishing.
  • Replace light bulbs and clean fixtures as required.
  • Remove trash from grounds and parking lots around the maintained building.
  • Use tools and equipment such as vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, hammers, and screwdrivers; perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Assist in snow removal as required.
