Residential Substance Abuse Counselor

Salary: $22.50 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Note: This is a Per Diem role focused on evening shifts.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Substance Abuse Counselor will be responsible for evaluating the psychosocial requirements of clients and their families within a Residential Treatment setting for substance abuse. The role involves:
- Implementing interventions to address client needs in collaboration with the treatment team and available resources.
- Providing crisis intervention and case consultation to other professionals as necessary.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of clients while upholding the program's integrity.
- Offering supervision to clients and support to staff as assigned.
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Current enrollment in a state-recognized chemical dependency counselor certification program, such as Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT) with CCAPP.
- A minimum of six months of experience in substance abuse or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid driver's license in California, which must remain current throughout employment.
- Familiarity with the 12-step recovery model, drug and alcohol dependency, and mental health disorders is highly preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within the first week of employment and maintained thereafter.
- Medication training is required within the first month of employment and must be kept current.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in word processing and internet navigation, are essential.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary for maintaining client records, developing treatment plans, and facilitating group sessions.
- Experience in crisis management, with the ability to identify crises and recognize when additional support is needed, is crucial.
- A commitment to advocating for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including various ethnicities, genders, and ages.
