Key Responsibilities

The Cook is responsible for preparing meals in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as our internal policies and procedures, under the guidance of the Food Services Director.

Essential Duties

- Adhere to the community's personnel, safety, and corporate policies.

- Immediately report any observed or reported instances of resident abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities.

- Treat residents, family members, visitors, and colleagues with respect and dignity.

- Maintain confidentiality regarding all resident and family information.

- Arrive at work punctually and as scheduled.

- Report any occupational exposures to hazardous materials to the Food Services Director.

- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations.

- Follow the established schedule as directed by the Dietary Manager.

- Review menus prior to meal preparation.

- Inspect special diet trays to ensure accuracy in serving.

- Ensure adherence to dietary procedures as per established policies.

- Assist in organizing the food service production line to ensure timely meal preparation.

- Process diet changes and new dietary requirements as communicated by Nursing Services.

- Prepare meals according to planned menus, ensuring they are appealing and appetizing.

- Serve food in accordance with portion control guidelines.

- Prepare food for therapeutic diets as per planned menus.

- Follow standardized recipes and special diet orders during food preparation.

- Review care plans to ensure dietary information aligns with served foods.

- Prepare and serve alternative food options for residents who decline the main offerings.

- Comply with sanitary regulations and established policies during food preparation.

- Ensure safety regulations are followed by all personnel at all times.

- Adhere to Infection Control and Universal Precautions policies during daily tasks.

- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and safety in the department.

- Help keep food storage areas organized and clean.

- Ensure availability of food and supplies for upcoming meals.

- Assist in inventorying and storing incoming food and supplies as necessary.

- Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Food Services Director.

- Make only authorized substitutions in food preparation.

- Assist in preparing food for special events and gatherings.

- Report any missing or unclear labels or safety data sheets to the Food Services Director.

- Immediately report any hazardous conditions or equipment issues to the Food Services Director.

- Document and report all accidents or incidents as per departmental policies.

Job Requirements

The following are key job requirements for this position:

- Basic computer skills are necessary.

- If driving is required for business purposes, compliance with the company’s motor vehicle policy is essential.

- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language is required.

- Flexibility to work beyond standard hours, including weekends and holidays, when necessary.

- Ability to assist in evacuating residents during emergencies.

- Capability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

- Use of a transfer/gait belt or assistance from another employee is required when lifting or carrying objects over 25 pounds.
