Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker to join our team at the University of Northwestern. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing general maintenance work, including plumbing repairs, air conditioner unit service and repair, minor electrical repair, furniture assembly, and light carpentry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs, including leak repair, toilet fixture repair, and pipeline maintenance.
  • Service and repair window and packaged terminal air conditioners to ensure efficient operation and peak performance.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs, including lighting fixture repair/replacement and wall outlet installation.
  • Perform light carpentry tasks, including sheet rock patching, wall and floor tile repair/replacement, and cabinet hanging.
  • Assemble furniture as needed.
  • Supervise student employees and perform light masonry work, furniture repair, and other tasks as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance throughout the campus and assist with planning and scheduling as needed.
  • Assist with snow removal and perform other miscellaneous duties as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Trade school degree/training and/or three years of previous maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic plumbing repairs/modifications, basic carpentry skills, and minor electrical repairs/modifications.
  • Ability to install carpet and tile.
  • Ability to instruct student workforce in proper use of tools, lifting techniques, and repair of equipment.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate student workers' schedules and work projects.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical principles and air conditioner repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout employment.
