Position Overview:

The Plant Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the strategic planning, organization, and oversight of all maintenance operations within the facility. This role encompasses engineering, planning, mechanical and electrical leadership, technician management, and inventory control, all aimed at enhancing equipment availability. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor plays a crucial role in the success of the Maintenance Department.

Key Responsibilities:

Management of Maintenance Operations (50%):

  • Oversee the annual maintenance budget development and manage expenditures effectively;
  • Drive the continuous enhancement and integration of the computer maintenance management system (MP2) into operational workflows;
  • Provide leadership and direction to maintenance engineers, planners, and storeroom staff;
  • Formulate and execute strategies to minimize equipment failures, enhance planned maintenance, and optimize scheduled maintenance;
  • Establish metrics and reporting systems to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement across manufacturing systems;
  • Ensure the facility is maintained safely and to a high standard of equipment availability;
  • Supervise maintenance personnel and identify training and development needs;
  • Collaborate closely with the Production Manager to minimize production disruptions during maintenance activities;
  • Investigate and determine the root causes of electrical and mechanical downtime incidents;
  • Communicate performance metrics and updates to all levels of the maintenance team;
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to maintenance and operational procedures;
  • Conduct facility tours to engage with production, quality, safety, and maintenance teams to foster cultural change and ensure customer satisfaction.

Development of Maintenance Systems (40%):

  • Create detailed job plans outlining labor, materials, tools, and procedures for repairs and preventative maintenance;
  • Establish and maintain preventive maintenance work orders in MP2, including job plans and required resources;
  • Manage the workflow process encompassing work identification, planning, scheduling, execution, and auditing;
  • Maintain an organized backlog of work orders for specific plant areas;
  • Review and manage new work requests for clarity and applicability;
  • Analyze reports and take necessary actions based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to meet departmental goals;
  • Facilitate planning and scheduling of maintenance activities;
  • Lead meetings to review maintenance performance and outcomes;
  • Conduct time studies to enhance operational efficiency;
  • Coordinate with storeroom personnel to ensure the availability of necessary parts and maintain efficient inventory levels.

Career Development and Training (10%):

  • Ensure technicians are proficient with evolving technologies;
  • Verify that all technicians maintain necessary licenses and certifications;
  • Assess technician skill sets against operational needs and develop action plans to address skill gaps;
  • Implement corporate-defined training initiatives for technicians.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field is required;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance management role within a continuous manufacturing or heavy industrial environment;
  • Experience with a computer maintenance management system (CMMS) is essential;
  • Hands-on experience in Planning/Scheduling is preferred;
  • Familiarity with PLC programming and troubleshooting is advantageous.
