Payroll Specialist

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client to hire a Payroll Specialist for a contract opportunity in Berkeley, California.

This role involves overseeing the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for all employees. The successful candidate will have expertise in UKG software to manage payroll data, handle payroll discrepancies, and comply with applicable laws and regulations.

• Process and manage bi-weekly or monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Utilize UKG software to enter, update, and maintain payroll data, including employee information, deductions, and benefits.
• Review and verify timesheets, time-off requests, and overtime calculations.
• Resolve payroll discrepancies by investigating and reconciling issues in a timely manner.
• Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, including federal and state withholdings, and ensure timely payment of payroll taxes.
• Generate and distribute payroll reports, including earnings statements, tax documents, and summaries.
• Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll information and ensure data security.
• Stay current on payroll regulations and industry best practices to ensure compliance.
• Assist with year-end processing, including W-2 preparation and reporting.
• Provide excellent customer service to employees regarding payroll-related inquiries and issues.
• Collaborate with HR and finance teams to support payroll-related activities and projects.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing or a similar role.
• Proficiency with UKG software is required.
• Strong understanding of payroll principles, tax regulations, and labor laws.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
• Certification in payroll management (e.g., CPP) is a plus.
• Experience working in a fast-paced or high-volume environment.
• Familiarity with Berkeley and California-specific payroll regulations.
