Patient Access Representative II

Job Summary
The Patient Access Representative II plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and orderly admission of patients. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills to collect accurate patient information and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Registers patients according to department procedures and completes all necessary admission forms accurately and thoroughly.
- Verifies patient information using the Master Patient Index function and ensures that patient names, chief complaints, and other information are entered accurately.
- Prepares patient financial folders and distributes copies to appropriate departments.
- Ensures that each account is billable and pre-certification requirements are met, and contacts physician's offices to obtain required pre-admission information as needed.
- Explains hospital policies regarding payment of services, collects payments, and issues receipts.
- Requests identification cards and insurance cards during the admission process and verifies insurance coverage and eligibility.
- Ensures that each patient receives an identification bracelet upon admission.
- Operates the PBX and answers all incoming calls, transferring to the appropriate department or patient room in a professional manner.
- Performs paging via overhead and other hospital systems when required, including announcing and reporting hospital emergency codes.
- Ensures that physicians are authorized to admit patients and refers delinquent physicians to the hospital administrator or designee.
- Maintains confidentiality of patients, families, employees, and visitors and provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, and others.
Requirements
- Two years of admitting office and/or PBX operator experience.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong time management skills and ability to multitask and maintain a work pace appropriate to workload.
- Computer literacy and proficiency.
- Ability to demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
- Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.
- High School Diploma or GED.
