SCHEDULE:
Full-Time - 40 hours, including rotating shifts of 2-12 hour and 2-8 hour days, with weekend night shifts from 7 PM to 7:30 AM or 11 PM to 7 AM.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) plays a crucial role in delivering patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Under the clinical oversight of Registered Nurses, the PNS directs and facilitates patient education activities in accordance with their qualifications and competencies. The PNS utilizes the established medical record system as required throughout their duties.
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PNS assists in evaluating the physical, psychological, and social aspects of patients within the healthcare unit and, when necessary, in the housing units.
The PNS aids in the planning and execution of individualized treatment programs in both the healthcare and housing units by leveraging available resources and collaborating with registered nurses, physicians, and correctional officers.
Key responsibilities include implementing medical plans by administering medications and interventions as per provider instructions, documenting nursing encounters, patient responses, and complications, and communicating relevant information to supervisory personnel and physicians in accordance with provider orders.
The PNS also assists in maintaining the working and living environments and supplies in optimal condition. As a member of the nursing care and treatment team, the PNS supports physicians as assigned and utilizes available in-house resources for treatment and consultation. They implement clinical and technical aspects of care in alignment with established policies and procedures, including taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure) and applying and changing dressings.
Upon receiving the necessary training and/or instruction, the PNS may perform other related duties as required or assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The following qualifications represent the minimum requirements for this position:
- Current, unrestricted STATE Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) License
- Current CPR Certification
- Graduate from an accredited nursing school
- Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience, with correctional experience being advantageous.
