Public Safety Communications Specialist

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Communications Specialist to join our team. As a Public Safety Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for providing timely, accurate, and courteous communications services to the University and Hospital community who need emergency assistance and other services. You will also provide communications services to Campus Police department and other governmental units in a manner that assists those agencies in carrying out their responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide emergency dispatch support work with accuracy, speed, and minimal supervision.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations.
  • Work in a team environment with all levels of local, state, federal, university, and private sector.
  • Operate complex technological systems such as the Common Operating Picture and Crisis Management System.
  • Work in a 24-hour operation, 7-day rotating schedule is required.
  • Work rotating shifts, may be assigned mandatory overtime up to 12 hours.

Requirements:
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Possession of DCJS Basic Dispatch Certification and VCIN Full Access Certification or ability to complete within 12 months of hire.
  • Valid DMV operator license.
  • Must never have been convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Virginia State Certification or prior emergency communications experience.
