Job Summary

The West Virginia Department of Education is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the role of Classroom Assistant. As a key member of our educational team, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional program and providing a safe and conducive learning environment for students.

Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in supervising students in the classroom and various locations within the school
  • Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, and playground duty as assigned by the building supervisor or principal
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials
  • Conduct learning games with students according to established procedures
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce skills taught by the teacher
  • Assist in implementing lessons based on district and school objectives and needs and abilities of students
  • Work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c
  • Meet the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test)
  • Special Education Aides will be required to complete the Hampshire County approved management training (such as Safety Care) upon the request of the school level administrator or Special Education Director (re-certification when necessary)
  • All aides will be required to complete CPR/First Aid in order to remain qualified for the position
  • All aides will be required to complete wheelchair/harness training for school buses
Working Conditions

The work environment is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
