POSITION SUMMARY

The Surgical Patient Care Assistant is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of surgical patient care with efficiency and precision.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Formal Education / Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a First Assistant or a minimum of one year as a surgical technician

Workplace Experience: Experience in Perioperative Care

Equipment and Skills Training:

Ability to perform effectively under pressure, both independently and as part of a team, with knowledge across various nursing environments. Familiarity with surgical equipment in specialties such as general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, and others.

Physical Environment: Experience in providing care to patients of all age groups.

Physical Effort:

  • Proficient communication skills in English
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work up to twelve hours daily
  • Capability to handle objects weighing up to 175 lbs, assisting in lifting patients up to 250 lbs

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Collaborates effectively with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient care delivery
  • Ensures timely availability of necessary equipment and supplies
  • Maintains a sterile environment using aseptic techniques
  • Assists in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation within the operating room
  • Handles medications and solutions according to hospital protocols
  • Contributes to cost-effective practices and accurate patient charge documentation
  • Participates in staff development and educational initiatives
  • Demonstrates accountability in communication and task execution
