Highway Mechanic

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team in the Highway Division of the County of Kenosha. As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing professional repairs and maintenance of all aspects of our fleet of trucks and equipment, ensuring they are in factory-quality condition or better.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze and diagnose issues with various types of vehicles and equipment, using diagnostic computer software to identify problems with engine, transmission, and anti-lock brake systems.
- Perform repairs on all types of engines, drive trains, electrical and hydraulic systems, and other systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance on all types of vehicles and equipment, including welding and fabricating as needed.
- Repair tires and tubes, and paint vehicles and equipment as required.
- Make service calls to repair vehicles and equipment broken down while in service, and determine operational status of equipment or immediate placement of equipment out of service.
- Identify parts, materials, and supplies needed to complete maintenance and repairs.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Mechanic I = 3 years of additional training in gasoline and diesel engine repair, or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Mechanic II = Minimum 5 years of experience with heavy equipment repair work, or equivalent combination of training and certifications may be considered.

The position requires a full range of physical movement, including bending, reaching, lifting, and heavy physical demands such as exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally. Work involves stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, turning, and reaching, and may be performed in an indoor or outdoor environment with exposure to weather extremes.
Must be able to work outside in any weather conditions, including temperature extremes.
