Job Description

The Director of Clinical Excellence will develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive infection prevention and control program across the facility. This includes developing and implementing policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and providing education to staff, residents, and families.

Responsibilities:

Infection Control

  • Develop and implement an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infections
  • Establish facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases
  • Develop and implement written policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice and recognized guidelines for infection prevention and control
  • Oversee the facility's antibiotic stewardship program and implement an annual infection control risk assessment process
  • Review and/or revise the facility's infection prevention and control program, its standards, policies, and procedures annually and as needed
  • Provide education related to infection prevention and control principles, policies, and procedures to staff, residents, and families
  • Ensure public health is notified of reportable diseases and maintain documentation of infection prevention and control program activities
  • Treat all residents with dignity and respect, promote and protect all residents' rights, and establish a culture of compliance
  • Follow appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents and themselves
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected health information and report noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality
  • Report any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding infection prevention and control and assist with admission, discharge, or care of residents as needed

Education

  • Assess learning needs and mandatory in-service data to meet needs and regulatory guidelines
  • Implement, communicate, and evaluate the monthly and annual training plans
  • Develop specific teaching plans and programs to cover training needs for all roles on a regular and as needed basis
  • Maintain master copies of facility policy/procedure manuals and communications books
  • Work with the Director of Nursing (DON) to ensure quality of care is held to the highest standard and all facility policies and procedures are carried out by every staff member
  • Conduct CPR courses as needed to maintain facility policy and/or regulatory compliance
  • Conduct TB certification classes and maintain records that meet regulatory compliance
  • Combine strong clinical skills with a compassionate, engaged personality and a dedication to ensuring exceptional patient outcomes and a high degree of patient satisfaction
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work well with a diverse population

Qualifications:

  • A professionally-trained nurse that has earned a certificate/diploma or degree in nursing
  • A professionally-trained medical technologist (or clinical laboratory scientist) that has earned at least an associate's degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science
  • Must also meet state requirements for relevant licensures or certifications and have no disciplinary action in effect against professional license
  • Education, training, experience, or certification in infection control and prevention
  • Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control through accredited continuing education
