Position Overview

The Market Risk Analyst plays a crucial role in overseeing the risk management functions associated with energy marketing operations. This position is integral to ensuring that all trading activities are conducted within established risk parameters and in a controlled environment.

NextEra Energy Marketing is recognized as a leading entity in the electricity and natural gas marketing sector. We manage the electricity and fuel requirements for NextEra Energy Resources' extensive generation portfolio, which includes a significant renewable energy collection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a dedicated team of market risk analysts.
  • Engage with traders and various business units to comprehend trading strategies and associated risks.
  • Develop and implement sophisticated market risk models, including Value at Risk (VaR), stress testing, and scenario analysis.
  • Monitor and report on market risk exposures, ensuring compliance with established limits.
  • Conduct daily reconciliation and verification of trading Profit and Loss (P&L).
  • Provide detailed explanations of profit and loss performance to management.
  • Generate and distribute daily P&L and risk reports.
  • Perform independent price verification and propose valuation reserves as necessary.
  • Evaluate complex transactions and calculate necessary reserves.
  • Support external financial reporting through adherence to company accounting policies.
  • Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls and contribute to process improvements.
  • Work closely with other risk management functions to promote a comprehensive risk management approach.
  • Assist in system upgrades and automation projects related to Trading Risk Management.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness and uphold the company's values of excellence and integrity.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a risk management or product control role within a power and gas trading environment.
  • Strong knowledge of power and gas markets, along with a solid understanding of physical trading and financial products.
  • Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and programming languages such as Python.
  • Experience with Energy Trading Risk Management Systems is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills combined with a disciplined approach to risk management.
  • A passion for risk management and a commitment to professional excellence.
