Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper, providing personalized care to patients and their support systems. This role requires collaboration with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized respiratory plans of care that promote optimal health or a comforting peaceful death.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishes authentic relationships with patients and their support systems
  • Collaborates with physicians and other team members to develop individualized respiratory plans of care
  • Administers and evaluates medication therapies, performs patient transfers, and transports patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments
  • Communicates individualized plans of care and patient progress to all members of the care team, including the patient and their support system
  • Maintains clinical and professional competencies according to department policies
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree/Certificate required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Registered by National Board of Respiratory Care and current RCP licensure in applicable state required
  • BLS required upon hire; ACLS, NRP, and PALS to be completed within 90 days of hire date
  • VA State Licensure
Physical Demands

The job requires standing and walking constantly and frequently bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
