Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is collaborating with accredited NJ EMS training institutions to offer a unique opportunity for individuals aspiring to enter the healthcare sector as Emergency Medical Technicians. Selected candidates will receive compensation while attending the program, with tuition and textbook costs fully covered. During the training period, participants will also have the chance to initiate their orientation and onboarding process with Hackensack Meridian Health. Upon successful completion of the EMT program and the NREMT examination, candidates will be required to commit to a minimum of two years of full-time employment at Hackensack Meridian Health as an EMT.
Key Responsibilities
A typical day for an EMT Apprentice at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Participating in all training sessions, both virtual and in-person.
- Completing all assigned educational tasks.
- Demonstrating skills proficiency by passing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination.
- Engaging professionally with peers, patients, leadership, and other emergency service personnel.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all relevant State and Federal regulations regarding emergency medical services and EMT certification.
- Exhibiting professionalism and dignity in all interactions to uphold the public's perception of HackensackUMC as a leading healthcare provider.
- Carrying out additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Adhering to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of conduct.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or equivalent educational programs.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Valid Driver's License from a USA state.
Contacts:
- All HUMC personnel, Local EMS Personnel, Municipal, County, and State Officials. Must interact appropriately with all HackensackUMC management, EMS personnel, hospital staff, public safety personnel, and community members. Clear and effective communication, both written and verbal, is essential. Professional demeanor and appearance are required during all interactions.

- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

- While performing job duties, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in various weather conditions, and is often exposed to blood-borne pathogens, airborne particles, fumes, gases, electrical and chemical hazards. Pre-employment and annual physicals will be provided, including necessary immunizations, back screening, and tuberculosis testing.
