Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute non-judgmental technical tasks under the direct oversight of a pharmacist.
  • Prepare medication orders as per physician requests, adhering to established protocols and procedures.
  • Accurately compound pharmaceuticals, including both non-sterile and sterile products, as well as chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition formulations.
  • Distribute controlled substances to patient care areas while maintaining compliance with legal and institutional record-keeping requirements.
  • Oversee and guide pharmacy support staff, participating in team meetings and discussions.
  • Analyze medication utilization processes and contribute to at least one related project annually.
  • Act as the lead technician in specialized areas such as the operating room, IV room, or other pharmacy workspaces outside the central pharmacy.
  • Provide ambulatory pharmaceutical care services as assigned, including but not limited to anticoagulation clinics and medication reconciliation.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of inventory management policies to ensure cleanliness, medication expiration compliance, and appropriate inventory levels of formulary-approved drugs.

Patient Safety and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure safe, effective, and economical drug therapies for patients in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Accurately read, extract, and interpret information from patient medical records.
  • Deliver precise and timely drug information to pharmacy associates.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and medication use reviews, collecting data and maintaining necessary documentation.
  • Be aware of potential exposure to hazardous substances, including chemotherapeutic agents and cleaning solutions.
  • Participate in direct patient care activities, which may involve exposure to biologic materials.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician II or 5 years of overall pharmacy technician experience.
  • Registered pharmacy technician in the state of practice is required.
  • Certification as a pharmacy technician is preferred.

This role is a full-time position within CHRISTUS Health, where we prioritize compassionate care and advanced medical practices.
