Job Summary:

The High-Performance Computing (HPC) Systems Specialist plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive technical support for HPC services. This position is responsible for the operational management, monitoring, and configuration of Linux-based HPC clusters, storage solutions, and associated research technology systems.

Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving issues, managing user accounts, deploying applications, and serving as a subject matter expert in HPC environments. This role involves direct interaction with users to enhance their experience and facilitate effective utilization of computational resources.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all operational aspects of HPC services, including upgrades, maintenance, and system expansion.
  • Consult with users to implement best practices within the HPC environment, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
  • Assist users with job submissions and analyze results post-completion.
  • Represent the Technology Services division in meetings, gathering requirements and providing valuable feedback.
  • Monitor system performance and recommend necessary expansions based on resource metrics.
  • Address and resolve issues in HPC and ancillary systems, utilizing external support when needed.
  • Deploy scientific applications and assist in user-managed application deployments.
  • Provide documentation and technical support for security, recoverability, and access protocols.
  • Maintain and update operational checklists for routine HPC tasks.
  • Document maintenance, configuration, and management processes for HPC components and systems.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with at least three years of experience in managing complex LAN/WAN environments, or an Associate's degree with five years of experience, or a High School diploma with nine years of relevant experience.


Preferred Skills:

Ideal candidates will have strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems, cluster management software, and configuration management tools. Familiarity with HPC application deployment tools and experience in bioinformatics applications are also advantageous.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Successful candidates will demonstrate proficiency in HPC orchestration, Linux HPC clusters, workload management, and high-performance storage systems. They should possess excellent planning, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues effectively.
