Job Summary

Western Nevada College is seeking a part-time instructor to teach courses in Advanced Manufacturing disciplines. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechatronics and automation, and be able to prepare students for certification in these areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses and be available to students during the contract period.
  • Prepare course syllabi, course outlines (if necessary) and related instructional materials.
  • Maintain student records, including attendance and grades.
  • Administer student evaluations.
  • Participate in orientation and faculty meetings as requested.
  • Participate in student retention activities as requested.
  • Promote college educational programs and services to the communities served by WNC.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the specified discipline or a related field. Or, a combination of education and professional experience.
  • One year of experience in the specified discipline or closely related field. Or one year of experience delivering instruction or on-the-job training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Manufacturing professional level certifications.
  • Instructor certification in SACA, MSi, MSSC or other relevant industry credentialing.
  • Experience teaching in a community college setting.
  • Experience with distance education/web-teaching modalities.
  • Fluency in Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of/experience with basic electrical circuits and components; pneumatics and hydraulics; control systems and technologies; PLCs; manufacturing best practices; and automation.
  • Familiarity with SACA, MSSC and MSi certifications.
  • Knowledge and ability to use personal computers, applicable software and the Internet.
  • Effective communication skills with students, faculty and other community members.
  • Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs.
  • Teaching and facilitation skills.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Knowledge of academic and/or vocational education curricula.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current education methodologies and techniques.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
