Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer 2 performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services and procedures for adult patients, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms. Key responsibilities include preparing equipment, prepping patients, and explaining procedures, as well as reviewing images, reporting findings, and analyzing patient clinical history to identify the purpose of the examination.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history to adapt imaging techniques and obtain comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiograms.
  • Perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures using various equipment and techniques, making necessary measurements for accurate results.
  • Identify and define cardiac abnormalities, extending the scope of the examination as needed, and correlating invasive and noninvasive cardiac diagnostic test results with cardiac anatomy and function.
  • Assist physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies to aid in complex procedures.
  • Record statistics and perform daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, reporting malfunctions as necessary.
Key Success Factors
  • Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to explain the purpose of the echocardiographic examination to patients and answer their questions.
  • Knowledge of approved clinical protocols for each type of cardiovascular ultrasound examination.
  • Knowledge of proper infection control and relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.

Qualifications
  • Education: Grad of an Accredited Program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
  • Experience: Less than 1 Year of Experience.
  • Certification/License/Registration: Basic Life Support (BLS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), or Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).
