Phlebotomist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at UnitedHealth Group. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients, preparing them for laboratory testing, and ensuring accurate and efficient processing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect blood and other specimens from patients using various techniques, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
  • Label and prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring accurate and efficient processing.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, laboratory staff, and medical staff to ensure smooth specimen collection and processing.
  • Participate in the instruction of new personnel and contribute to the development of laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time to meet deadlines.
Requirements:
  • Certification from an accredited phlebotomy diploma program.
  • 1+ years of phlebotomy experience (additional education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement).
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, including blood collection, urine and stool collection, and EKG and spirometry procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, communicating with patients, laboratory staff, and medical staff.
Working Conditions:

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a medical group and laboratory environment.

The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $28.27 per hour. Pay is based on several factors, including local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, and more. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
