Family Advocate

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Family Advocate to join our team at Cherokee Nation. The successful candidate will be responsible for interviewing clients to assess their needs, developing short and long-term goals to promote self-sufficiency, and working with internal and external agencies to develop plans for clients.

• Interview clients to determine their eligibility for Tribal and other social service programs
• Develop and implement individual service plans to promote client self-sufficiency
• Work with internal and external agencies to develop plans for clients
• Provide counseling and support to clients to help them modify their attitudes and behaviors
• Assess the employability of clients and provide guidance on job search and employment opportunities
• Input information into the computer database for upload to management for final review
• Review applications for continuation of direct financial assistance and initiate procedures to continue benefits

• Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in social work or a related field
• Additional experience in a related field, with a minimum of 6 months for Family Advocate I and 3 years for Family Advocate II
• Valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report
• Good computer skills, including knowledge of database software, internet software, and word processing software
• Ability to communicate in Cherokee is a plus

The Family Advocate will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with clients, staff, and external agencies. The position requires good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Family Advocate will be required to sit for long periods, use a computer, and communicate with clients and staff. The position requires occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

The Family Advocate will work in a office environment, with occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
