Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team in Johnston, Iowa. As a Research Assistant - Greenhouse Operations, you will be responsible for performing day-to-day activities in our greenhouse facility, including planting, pollinating, tissue sampling, pest/disease scouting, harvesting, threshing, discarding, chamber sanitation, general plant care, data collection, data entry, facility cleanliness, and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Work in new soybean growth chambers, collecting tissue samples from soybean plants for DNA analysis
  • Water, pot soil, and care for all plants in the growth chamber
  • Replant samples after data review, assist in operating the soybean threshing machine, plating samples for the Molecular Marker group, cleaning the facility, plant maintenance (trimming, training, and node cleaning), cross-pollinating, and plant discard
  • Work with soybean, wheat, pollen, and dust
Work Environment

This is a fully on-site position in Johnston, Iowa. You will work Monday-Friday, typically from 7 AM to 3:30 PM, totaling 35-40 hours per week. Occasional weekend and holiday work may be required, with the expectation to work 2 weekends out of every 5 weeks (both Saturday and Sunday for 4 hours, 9 AM-1 PM).
