Job Summary

The Custodian - Facilities Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for performing assigned custodial tasks at various job locations. This includes general cleaning, buffing, scrubbing, and operating equipment such as scrubbers, extractors, and buffers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all general required tasks as directed by the Lead Custodian or Crew Lead Supervisor
  • Use floor machines for buffing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning safely and according to proper usage
  • Perform all tasks within proper safety guidelines, company guidelines, and as directed by management
  • Follow all company policies and procedures regarding safety, customer service, proper attire, and working conditions
  • Perform assignments according to company schedule and as expected by the customer
  • Wear uniform at required worksites
  • Perform janitorial/custodial tasks based on defined scope of work and customer requests
  • This position may work nights, early morning, weekends, and holidays
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Work effectively individually and with a team
  • Attend periodic training and safety meetings
  • Able to read and communicate in English
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 pounds
  • Repetitive motion involved on a daily basis may include, but not limited to, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, and squatting
  • Ability to operate small power tools
  • Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching into areas not fully air conditioned
  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time to include climbing/descending stairwells and ladders
  • Can work independently and in stressful environments
  • Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance
  • Optional local area travel using personal vehicle. Approximately 10% of the time and will vary during the month and week.
  • May have responsibility to enter customer facilities that require background screening.

Education and Certifications

Prefer a high school diploma or equivalent plus 1–2 years of experience in custodial, janitorial, or cleaning services.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of custodial responsibilities and maintenance obligations
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, including those for sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and applying finishes to different types of floors
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and processes
  • Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various cleaning compounds
  • Experience in cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms
  • Ability to demonstrate the importance of workplace safety, comply with safety standards, adopt safe work habits, use appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the corresponding supervisor
  • Ability to follow instructions and work according to guidelines
  • Must be able to read and understand and respect units of measurement on product labels
  • Satisfactory personal appearance and hygiene within company guidelines
  • Proven ability to maintain cleaning equipment clean, safe, and operational

  • Ability to maintain cleaning supply closets in order
