I. POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Regional EHS Coordinator, the EHS Manager is dedicated to fostering a secure and compliant workplace for all personnel within First Brands Group, LLC. This role is responsible for managing and ensuring adherence to both internal and external audits, as well as regulatory compliance.
II. NATURE & SCOPE
First Brands Group, LLC specializes in the manufacturing of OEM and aftermarket automotive components and accessories, with facilities across multiple states. The headquarters is located in Cleveland, OH, and the company distributes products nationwide and internationally.
This position reports directly to the Regional Safety Coordinator and follows corporate policies and procedures, as well as federal and state safety regulations, including EPA, OSHA, and DOT. The primary objective is to manage and uphold policies and programs that guarantee a safe and healthy workplace, free from recognized hazards, while ensuring compliance with all relevant federal and state EH&S regulations.
Through conducting internal audits, observing employee practices, and implementing recommendations, the incumbent identifies environmental, safety, and health risks, directing appropriate corrective actions. This role also involves reviewing work methods for improved ergonomics, monitoring hazardous material handling, and ensuring adequate ventilation, air quality, and noise levels throughout the facilities.
The incumbent assists the facility in effectively managing recordable incidents by performing accident investigations and ensuring that corrective measures are implemented to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, this role provides guidance and coaching to safety committees and team members at each location.
Collaborative support is provided to develop, implement, and maintain documentation required for OSHA, Safety, EPA, ISO 14001, DOT training, or any other external audit requirements.
This position may coordinate Loss Control and/or Property Insurance visits, facilitating communication and collaboration with site leadership and safety teams. It is essential to ensure that recommendations are reviewed and that responses are communicated to the appropriate personnel for resolution. The role is also responsible for ensuring that the plant's fire protection and emergency systems are inspected and maintained according to insurance, government, and corporate standards.
III. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Assist in formulating a comprehensive strategy to cultivate and maintain a robust safety culture throughout the organization.
Contribute to the design, implementation, and communication of the company's health and safety policies, programs, and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
Encourage feedback on safety concerns and observations, promoting active participation, immediate incident reporting, and a sense of shared responsibility.
Analyze incident data and trends, conducting thorough investigations into accidents and near-miss incidents to identify potential safety, health, and environmental risks, and develop strategies for mitigation.
- Engage with federal, state, local, national, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance, representing the site during inspections, audits, and inquiries.
Coordinate relevant environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal and state standards and regulations.
Ensure the reporting of all incidents, documentation of recordable accidents, and provide guidance during investigations, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
Investigate complaints, suggestions, and recommendations related to OSHA, EPA, DOT, ergonomics, safety, health, and hygiene, resolving any associated issues.
Oversee compliance with ISO 14000 standards, if applicable.
Manage Loss Control & Protection Mutual visits, ensuring that recommendations are reviewed and implemented as necessary.
Provide direction and guidance during routine Safety Team meetings.
Maintain accurate records for applicable EH&S and DOT programs, including material safety data sheets, drug screenings, recordable incidents, and training.
Serve as the subject matter expert on EHS, coaching and guiding to create, maintain, and ensure performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure site EHS teams and overall performance. Implement structures for ongoing, real-time monitoring of established KPIs.
IV. SELECTION CRITERIA
Education: A Bachelor's Degree is preferred or equivalent experience.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing environment as an environmental, health, and safety professional.
Communication: Strong communication skills to interact with various levels of the organization.
Ability to listen and discuss information effectively.
Special Skills: Knowledge of ISO & TS standards and requirements.
Familiarity with OSHA, EPA & DOT standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook).
Experience in internal and external auditing.
Training in First Aid & CPR.
Demonstrated experience in health, safety, and environmental leadership roles.
Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage effective health and safety programs.
Dependability: Must maintain a satisfactory record of attendance and conduct. Flexibility to work any shift and overtime as required. Willingness to travel to other sites as necessary.
