As a Diagnostic Imaging Specialist at Atrium Health, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge equipment and technology to obtain high-quality diagnostic images or measurements of pharmaceutical distribution in specified body areas.

Job Responsibilities

  • Administering diagnostic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under the supervision of a Radiopharmacist.
  • Examining requests and verifying orders on each assigned patient, referring any discrepancies to the Radiologist.
  • Correlating other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
  • Obtaining medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
  • Operating dose calibrators, computers, lab equipment, and survey meters.
  • Verifying the correct patient by checking the patient's armband and validating proof of identity, recording medical history on requisitions.
  • Recording dose information, patient data, dates, views, and other pertinent information on finished exams.
  • Evaluating technical quality of images and consulting with a Radiologist if needed.

Physical Requirements

This position requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies up to 600 pounds with assistance. You may be required to stretch, bend, twist, squat, and kneel in performing diagnostic procedures.

The ability to carry weights of up to 25 pounds while moving film jackets, supplies, or equipment to work areas is also necessary. Significant walking will be required, as approximately 50% of work time will be standing and 50% operating computers, monitors, survey meters, and other equipment requiring manual dexterity and use of the hands.

Precision manual dexterity is required for venipuncture and radiopharmaceutical administration.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required. Successful completion of an AMA-approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program is also required. Registration with NMTCB or ARRT (N) is mandatory. Nuclear Medicine Technology experience is preferred, as well as proficiency in computer, radiation physics, and tomographic imaging.
