Job Summary

This role involves reviewing medical records and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS codes. You will also assign Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRG) or All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (APR-DRG) based on the type of insurance and extract specific data elements for each case, adhering to federal regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Review medical records to identify and abstract pertinent information.
  • Assign appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes for billing, research, statistics, financial planning, and compliance ensuring accuracy and adherence to guidelines from governmental and third-party payers.
  • Accurately assign ICD-10 codes that correspond to documented medical conditions and procedures.
  • Ensure the correct Medicare Severity-Diagnosis Related Group (MS-DRG) or All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Group (APR-DRG) is assigned.
  • Verify patient discharge dispositions and assign Present on Admission (POA) indicators.
Requirements
  • An Associate?s degree and registered with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as an RHIT or RHIA.
  • Candidates can be RHIT/RHIA credential-eligible with successful attainment of the credential within six months of hire.
  • Certification must be maintained through continuing education.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, treatment methods, patient care assessment, data collection techniques, and coding classification systems.
