Job Title: Library Specialist - Interlibrary Loan Support

Job Summary:

The Library Specialist-Interlibrary Loan Support is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) department of the Barber Library. This includes overseeing borrowing and loaning services, supporting public services, and collaborating with the Public Services Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily management of Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services, working with the Head of Access Services to evaluate resource sharing staffing and workflow.
  • Oversee daily Library courier services for incoming and outgoing mail related to ILL, including handling shipping and receiving of library ILL materials.
  • Work closely with the Head of Access Services to assist in hiring, training, and overall oversight of Work Study and Irregular Wage library staff.
  • Address and maintain confidentiality and privacy in Interlibrary Loan records, and train library assistants to follow confidentiality policies.
  • Use specialized resource sharing resources for requesting, receiving, processing, documenting, and reporting all interlibrary loan activities.
  • Partner and contribute toward communication and shared work within the Orbis Cascade Alliance resource sharing services.
  • Collaborate with the Public Services Team to support the Library's day-to-day front-line operations, including providing backup to Circulation as needed.
  • Provide public services support, when needed, in Barber Library, ensuring that the library facility is ready for opening or closing following appropriate procedures and policies.
  • Provide reference and research assistance, referring complex requests to appropriate librarians.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree or combination of education and related library experience.
  • Six months of work experience in a library, including experience in the use of specialized library software applications in Circulation and Interlibrary Loan.
  • Six months of customer service experience assisting and problem-solving customer issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work in an academic library, including the use of an Integrated Library System (ILS) and/or resource sharing software applications.
  • Library reference desk/research experience and/or knowledge of various software programs.

Work Environment:

The incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods, with occasional lifting under 10 pounds and 10% of the time lifting objects under 50 pounds.
