Job Title: Lead Coder

Powers Health is seeking a highly skilled Lead Coder to join our team. As a Lead Coder, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of our coding processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide assistance and support to the coding unit and supervisor in daily workflow, data analysis, change implementation, and education.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of key requirements of all designated non-supervisory functions.
  • Monitor assigned managerial workqueues and coder-related workqueues to meet established department and corporate financial initiatives.
  • Recommend changes in workflow processes to accomplish month-end and year-end goals.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of Medicare medical necessity regulations, NCCI, and OCE, and proper modifier usage to ensure coding compliance.
  • Develop, collect, and report internal quality indicators for assigned functional areas.
  • Identify areas for improvement and provide support to the unit and department in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Work with the supervisor to ensure formal written procedures and internal coding guidelines and resources are current.
  • Contribute to daily workflow and work closely with ancillary departments, physicians, and physician support staff to ensure appropriate documentation is available to support coding, medical necessity, and compliance.
  • Demonstrate competency in all computer applications and equipment required to complete all job responsibilities.
  • Complete special projects accurately and timely as assigned or requested by the supervisor or manager of HIM.
  • Assist with new employee training and provide education and support to coding staff.
Requirements:
  • Minimum high school diploma required, college degree preferred in Health Information Technology.
  • Active accreditation as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
  • Graduate of an accredited Health Information Technology or Health Information Administration Program or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years same day surgery coding experience required.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCCI, OCE, and proper modifier usage.
  • Thorough knowledge of Medicare medical necessity regulations and the ABN.
  • Thorough understanding of injection and infusion coding.
  • Ability to perform several responsibilities at once and meet required deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, complete assignments timely and accurately.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Epic EMR experience preferred.
