As a key member of our fundraising team, the Director of Development (DOD) will collaborate with our CEO, Director of Volunteers, and Community Engagement Director to drive all fundraising efforts forward. Reporting directly to the CEO, this full-time position in Riverdale offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fundraising Strategy and Execution
    • Provide leadership and direction for individual giving, corporate support, special events, and partnerships to maximize revenue growth.
    • Work closely with the CEO to develop strategic approaches to fundraising, aiming to increase giving levels.
    • Create and implement a year-long plan to meet annual revenue targets, regularly analyzing progress and identifying strategies to address potential shortfalls.
  • Cultivating Relationships
    • Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors across New York, developing tailored stewardship strategies to diversify and grow our donor base.
    • Collaborate with the CEO to inform the Board of Directors on fundraising strategy, activities, achievements, and significant donations.
    • Oversee content development and calendar for donor services, including acknowledgment letters, direct appeals, and select solicitation materials.
    • Represent the Riverdale Y to donors, prospects, volunteers, and other key constituents at events, both internally and externally.
    • Launch and manage a planned giving program to create a lasting philanthropic legacy.
  • Grant Writing and Proposals
    • Secure private and public funds while managing the reporting process on how funds are spent.
    • Source and draft grant applications with the appropriate team members to secure funding for programming and special projects.
  • Team Building and Engagement
    • Serve as a thought partner to our senior leadership team on fundraising possibilities to build a stronger culture of philanthropy.

    • Pursue external opportunities to continue growing and developing your craft.
    • Embed yourself in the Y community as a thoughtful leader and stakeholder.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in donor cultivation and solicitation, demonstrating the ability to build relationships with donors.
    • A track record of securing five and six-figure gifts.
    • Experience with special event fundraising.
    • Experience with budget management.
    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
    • Online fundraising experience a plus.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Demonstrated ability to think strategically.
    • Ability to problem solve and make decisions independently, as well as collaborate with others across various departments.
    • Commitment to the Riverdale Y's mission, vision, and values.
    • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required by special events, board meetings, and community programs.
    • Knowledge and experience in managing fundraising databases, fundraising reporting, and analysis of data on prospects and donors.
    • Mastery of strong financial and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred in nonprofit management or business administration.
Compensation Package

We offer a competitive compensation package, including a salary range of $70,000-$80,000, commensurate with experience, as well as benefits such as medical & dental insurance, flexible spending, commuter benefits, and a pension plan.
