Senior Veterinarian

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Veterinarian to join our team at Lion Country Safari, Inc. in Loxahatchee, FL. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to a diverse range of exotic and domestic animals residing within the zoo.

• Oversee the health and well-being of our animal population, including routine health checks, medical assessments, and treatment of illnesses and injuries.
• Design and maintain preventative medicine programs, including vaccination and parasite control.
• Collaborate with other zoo departments, including curators, keepers, and conservation teams, to ensure the highest level of animal care and welfare.
• Participate in conservation initiatives and research projects, including data collection and analysis.
• Manage veterinary staff, including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and assistants, to ensure the smooth operation of the veterinary department.

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
• Minimum of 15 years of clinical experience, preferably with exotic animals.
• Strong surgical and medical skills applicable to diverse species.
• Experience in zoo medicine or wildlife rehabilitation is highly desirable.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team of veterinary professionals.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse zoo departments.
• Commitment to animal welfare and conservation principles.

• Board certification or eligibility in Zoological Medicine (ABVP or ECZM) is a plus.
• Experience in research related to zoo animal health and conservation.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to zoo animal health and welfare.
