Powerline Technician

This is a skilled technical position involving the operation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of the campus Electric High Voltage Distribution System as a member of a lineman team.

• Inspects, installs, maintains, and repairs high voltage, primary, and secondary underground and overhead cable.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs loop feed switches, substation high voltage equipment and appurtenances, and building transformers.
• Sets poles, riggings, pulls, and makes splices and interconnects high voltage and secondary cable.
• Operates bucket and line trucks and performs related work as needed.

• Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training.
• Ability to understand and apply the principles, methods, and equipment used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical systems.
• Ability to understand and apply the safety methods, practices, and techniques required in electrical distribution systems work.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and to work from blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
