Role Overview

The YMCA of Greater Dayton is seeking a dedicated and caring Pedagogical Educator to join our team. This part-time, non-exempt position offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young children and their families.


Salary

The estimated annual salary for this position is $45,000, based on the national average for early childhood educators in the Germantown, OH area.


Job Description

This role will be integral in planning, developing, and implementing engaging educational activities that cater to the diverse needs, interests, and developmental levels of our preschool children. As a key member of our childcare team, you will prioritize the social, physical, spiritual, and mental development of our young learners while ensuring their safety and well-being.


Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that align with the children's needs, interests, and developmental levels, promoting a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Lead Teacher, Site Administrator, and other staff members to ensure seamless communication and a cohesive educational program.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, absenteeism, transitions, minor disciplines, and incidents for each child, while also documenting any special needs or problems that may arise.
  • Ensure the overall appearance and management of the classroom and designated program areas meet the highest standards, maintaining a neat and orderly environment with adequate supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Report any broken or unsafe toys and equipment, and maintain a regular disinfection schedule in accordance with state regulations.
  • Conduct the program in compliance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) guidelines, adhering to the highest standards of child care and education.
  • Communicate effectively with parents through verbal and written reports, and conduct parent-teacher conferences in accordance with Center guidelines.
  • Stay up-to-date with child abuse and neglect laws, adhering to proper reporting procedures and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all children and staff.
  • Handle discipline promptly and fairly, documenting and reporting incidents to the supervisor as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, ensuring the proper adult-to-child ratio and assisting in the overall cleanliness of the child care and program area.
  • Fulfill other duties as needed, such as filling in for other classrooms, attending parent events, and participating in staff meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent are required, with an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • At least six months of experience working in the early childhood field is strongly preferred, with a strong commitment to child development and education.

Other Requirements

This position requires a safe driving record and the ability to transport up to 14 children. A willingness to work flexible hours, including summer months and Day Camp, is also essential. Confidentiality in handling program participant, family, and staff information is a must.
